HOW GREEN ARE WE?
During 2007 we have endeavoured to improve our Greenness.
1.
We now recycle 100% of our glass and 95% of our paper, cardboard and plastic.
2.
We have installed Solar panels on the roof, Savastat Boiler Energy Saving Devices on our boilers in the hotel and swimming pool and installed Novitherm Panels behind every radiator.
3.
We use both sides of every piece of A4 paper whether it is our own paper or paper from incoming mail. We also use both sides of menu paper and the sweet menus are reused for Telephone Order Forms.
Terrace
4.
Lights bulbs have been changed to use Long-Life, Energy Savings Bulbs where possible and where it does not affect the aesthetics of the room. Mind you, our experience on some is that they do not last the thousands of hours they say and are therefore not as economical or eco-friendly as they boast.
5.
Every window in the hotel is now double-glazed.
6.
We switch off all appliances on Standby and switch off all appliances in rooms.
7.
Paper from the shredder of confidential information and peelings from cabbages, carrots, cauliflowers and Brussels sprouts go to be recycled by the Guinea Pigs!! and what comes out from there goes to the compost.
8.
Our kitchen oil returns to the Supplier.
9.
The Kitchen waste that does not go to the guinea pigs goes for composting.
10.
We now grow most of our own herbs for use in the Kitchen. Gill would have been rather more successful had it not been for a massive storm that blew away her greenhouse and which has been reinstated and ready for the 2008 season.
11.
We buy from local producers and manufacturers where economically and practically viable.
12.
Plastic and paper from rooms we also endeavour to sort and recycle. If you wish to assist in this practice, please ask for additional bin liners.
13.
Lights are on timers where possible.
14.
We ask guests to reuse towels to save water usage but certainly not at the expense of reducing the quality of our service.
15.
We ask guests to conserve the toiletries and have them replaced when necessary but again certainly not at the expense of reducing the quality of our service.
16.
We have reduced the water capacity in most lavatory cisterns.
17.
We collect rainwater for use on the garden and to refill both the fish tanks.
18.
Even Trudy gets a look-in here – she is known to recycle the occasional sausage rather than be thrown away after Breakfast.
19.
Oh, and I forgot the baby:- she too is quite capable of recycling some off-cuts that Gill minces that would otherwise be thrown away. (Eco-friendly baby, that’s a good start!!)
20.
In 2008 we will be looking for a compactor to help with crushing our waste which is done manually at the moment.
21.
………….. and personally, I use my bike to shop in Looe!! (Am I really going to do anything else??)
