AROUND & ABOUT
Places To Visit
The Eden Project has proved a tremendous success. Opened in March 2001, it has become one of the most visited attractions in the country. Unique and unforgettable, the giant 'biomes', nestled in a disused china clay pit, display plants from all over the world. The interpretation of why plants are so important and how they fit into our environment is fascinating for visitors of all ages. An easy 30 minutes drive from The Fieldhead, Eden is a must for every visitor to Cornwall. Fast track tickets available.
Looe itself provides a myriad of activities and interesting things to see ranging from rock and sea fishing, golf (five quality courses within a 40 minutes drive - click here for more), tennis and bowls (near the hotel), plenty of coastal and countryside walking and of course the beach.
The picturesque fishing village of Polperro is just 15 minutes away by car or a spectacular 2½ hour walk along the coastal path. Fowey and Polruan, twin towns connected by ferry are close by, as are the historic towns of Bodmin, Liskeard and St Austell.
Plymouth with its famous Hoe, National Marine Aquarium, marinas and shops is a 40 minute drive, with the Cathedral City of Truro just one hours drive away.
Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor offer unrivalled walking and nature opportunities while the North Coast of Cornwall has spectacular scenery.
For the garden lover, there are the fascinating Lost Gardens of Heligan, 30 minutes drive away and other equally fine examples such as Trebah, set in a hidden valley and Glendurgan with its famous maze.
Although at their best in the spring, visitors can enjoy a huge range of plants throughout the year, many not grown anywhere else in the UK.
Alongside the magnificent gardens, National Trust properties at Lanhydrock, Antony, Mount Edgecumbe and Cotehele are all an easy drive from The Fieldhead.
  National Maritime Museum, Falmouth, Cornwall.
Experience the new Endurance and Survival exhibition at National Maritime Museum Cornwall. This year-long exhibition is an adrenalin adventure, re-living the stories behind some of our most famous adventurers, including Shackleton, Ellen MacArthur, Tony Bullimore and Robin Knox-Johnston. All have endured and survived, in a personal challenge to achieve their goal; often in the face of extreme danger and this exhibition captures the incredible stories behind their achievements and those of less well known adventurers.
With newly discovered objects and hands-on survival exhibits - including a hands-on, climb-in life-raft - even the most hardened of explorers will admire the feats achieved by some of our most recognised heroes.
With breathtaking views from the 29m tower, one of only three natural underwater viewing locations in the world, hands-on interactives, audio visual immersive experiences, talks, special exhibitions and the opportunity to get out onto the water and discover the marine life around our coastline, this new generation of Museum has something for everyone and is the perfect day out.
The best way to get there? By boat. Use the Park & Float and sail to the Museum in a classic ferry - there is no better way to arrive than on water (June - September)
  Open daily 10-5, 7 days a week. Closed Christmas & Boxing Day. T: 01326 313388 F: 01326 317878 E: enquiries@nmmc.co.uk | www.nmmc.co.uk
