It is with a heavy heart we have to announce that Trudy The King Charles Spaniel and Head of Public Relations at the hotel died on the 30th July 2008 when she was taken to see her dentist for a basic teeth clean from which did not wake up after the anaesthetic.

At eleven and half years old, Trudy met many thousands of guests in her life time and with the very rare exception, touched everyone's hearts. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Even after her death, we are touched by the number of guests who walk in to Reception, offer their greetings to the Management and immediately follow that by "Where's Trudy?" What a compliment. Trudy's memory will perpetuate for several years to come. We would like to reassure guests that to talk of Trudy and mention her does only perpetuate her memory and certainly is not met by tears from us.

On the positive side, Trudy led a wonderful life. The worst sin she ever committed was to unobtrusively ask if she could have an after dinner mint. She was always there for guests and to keep them company. She never knew old age. She never knew what it was to be sick or ill.

We know many guests will be very sad to hear of her demise, but again, that is only a compliment to Trudy.

Just a few days before hand, she walked with guests to Polperro and back as she had done all her life either at The Fieldhead or Mill End. That was Trudy - but she never ever went into the Restaurant and never into the kitchen (while there is a Royal Decree that prohibits the banning of King Charles Spaniels from anywhere!!)

The Future? We intend to get another tri-colour King Charles Spaniel Bitch, and her name will be Trudii.
